Trojans Around the League

USC has several prominent alumni making their marks in the NFL during weekend.

It’s a rarity to sit through an NFL highlight show without seeing at least one former Trojan flying across the screen, and it was a virtual impossibility this weekend as a few marquee alumni gave it the old college try and put up numbers reminiscent of their USC years.

But we’ll get to the big names later. What about a few other guys who were a part of some of the most memorable Trojan moments in recent years, the players who might not have gotten all the ink but played crucial roles while wearing the Cardinal and Gold?

Steady wide receiver Chris McFoy, known by his USC teammates as “Bobble,” is on Raiders coach Lane Kiffin’s practice squad in Oakland. Fullback David Kirtman, a savior for the Trojans in the 2005 victory at Arizona State, has found a home back in the Pacific Northwest as a Seattle Seahawks practice player. Hard-hitting safety Darnell Bing spends his days delivering hits with the San Francisco 49ers practice squad.

Scout.com’s Ed Thompson provides periodic updates of roster moves made throughout the league and is a valuable source for tracking your favorite under-the-radar Trojans.

Now on to this week’s peak performers:
- Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Carson Palmer completed 33-of-50 passes for 401 yards and six touchdowns in a 51-45 loss at Cleveland.
- Fellow Heisman Trophy winner Matt Leinart led Arizona to a 23-20 conquest over the Seahawks. His only miscue? An interception snared by linebacker Lofa Tatupu, who also registered 12 tackles.
- Tennessee Titans running back LenDale White scored the first touchdown of his NFL career (he posted a whopping 52 touchdowns on the ground with the Trojans), and gained 64 yards on 15 carries.
- Detroit defensive end Shaun Cody intercepted a pass and posted two tackles in a 20-17 overtime win against the Vikings. Minnesota’s Kenechi Udeze, who teamed with Cody as part of “Wild Bunch II,” registered a sack in the game.
- Jacksonville’s Sammy Knight tallied seven tackles from the secondary in a 13-7 victory over Atlanta.
