Trojans Around the League

USC has several prominent alumni making their marks during Week 3 of the NFL.

With the amount of national television exposure the USC Trojans get, it’s no surprise that they have no problem keeping their composure in the limelight while many others play below their norm.

After all, 61 former USC players have displayed their talents on the grandest stage of them all, the Super Bowl. At least one Trojan has played in every Super Bowl but III, XXXIII and XLI, with Seattle’s Lofa Tatupu and Pittsburgh’s Troy Polamalu being the most recent participants when they faced off in Super Bowl XL.

This week, it was “Thunder and Lightning” illuminating the field on Monday Night Football as the New Orleans Saints’ Reggie Bush and the Tennessee Titans’ LenDale White lit up the scoreboard just as they had done on countless Saturdays while playing for Coach Pete Carroll.

White found the end zone for the second consecutive game and ran for 50 yards on 17 carries. Bush punched home his team’s only two touchdowns of the game and hauled in six receptions in the 31-14 Tennessee triumph.

A few other Trojans shined bright this weekend:

- Defensive end Kenechi Udeze of the Minnesota Vikings put in another solid effort with eight tackles (one for a five-yard loss) during a 13-10 loss at Kansas City.
- Jacksonville safety Sammy Knight picked off a pass and registered four tackles in the Jaguars’ 23-14 victory over the Denver Broncos.
- The Raiders' Justin Fargas rushed eight times for 50 yards and added a seven-yard reception in Oakland's 26-24 triumph against Cleveland.
- Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer threw for 342 yards and a touchdown, completing 27 of 43 passes with one interception.
- Polamalu tallied eight tackles and a pass defended while leading the Steelers to a 37-16 win over the 49ers.
- Carolina's Keary Colbert came through with three catches for 52 yards to bolster a winning cause in Atlanta as the Panthers earned a 27-20 victory.
