Trojans post a dazzling showing at the 2008 NFL Draft

To understand how successful the Trojans were in the 2008 NFL Draft, just look at the numbers.

They’re simply astounding.

USC had a national-best 10 players selected in this weekend’s draft, including a school-record seven players chosen in the first two rounds. Four Trojans, accounting for 13 percent of the opening round, were picked in the first 31 slots of the draft, the most of any school this year.

USC had two players go in the top 10 and seven in the top 63. That averages out to one out of every nine picks being a Trojan.

Then looking into history, Coach Pete Carroll has produced 42 draft picks in his seven years, a stunning average of six players per year. Also, USC now has 446 players drafted by the NFL and 71 first-round selections, the most by any school.

“It’s our goal that the success of this program doesn’t stop when our players graduate, but that it carries on into the NFL,” Carroll said. “This year’s draft results are a remarkable statement of our program.”
