The SC Video Production department literally does it all, producing everything from banquet videos to creative packages for internet consumption.

Think of it as USC Athletics’ very own movie studio.

SC Video Production, housed in Heritage Hall, churns out one special feature after another — everything from the pieces you see on USCRipsIt and USCTrojans.com to end-of-the-season banquet videos to live events, and for every sport from football to basketball to soccer.

Though their work has been produced out of Heritage Hall for years, SC Video Production officially came to fruition in Summer 2007, when the athletic department revolutionized its website (USCTrojans.com) and hired two full-time staffers, director Rich Rodriguez and assistant Mark Haas, to provide the creative content.

Now nearing the one-year anniversary of the founding of SC Video Production, the staff, which includes five paid student editors, has produced daily packages for internet consumption, along with end-of-the-year banquet videos for football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer and more.

The staff has also produced the “Ride to the Roses” DVD chronicling the 2007 season and the “SC Classics Vol. 1” DVD that highlights 13 classic Trojan football games. Both DVDs are pre-selling now and will be shipped shortly.

SC Video Production even has its own podcast page on iTunes, where you can download the latest highlights or features for free. Rodriguez said USC was ranked No. 2 in terms of downloads among all universities last year.

SC Video Production shouldn’t be confused with the video operations department, which handles all the coaches’ film. Led by Eric Espinoza, the video operations staff coordinates the Xs and Os of the game, while SC Video Production produces the creative, entertainment side of the sport.

Besides the creative content and end-of-the-year videos, SC Video Production also streams live USC sporting events on USCTrojans.com. The website currently covers five sports live, but Rodriguez said he hopes to expand the coverage starting this fall.

SC Video Production also fills footage requests from networks airing USC games (such as ABC and FSN), along with highlights for NFL Network’s Draft coverage and behind-the-scenes footage for various shows. Additionally, SC Video Production houses archives of decades of the Trojans’ televised football games.

“We have just about every USC football game archived going back to the 1930s,” Rodriguez said.
